2008 Mid-Week Lenten Worship Schedule
WORSHIP AT SAINT PAUL'S

Early Morning Worship:  8:30 AM
Sunday School and Bible Study:  9:45 AM
Late Morning Worship:  11:00 AM
Advent and Lenten Vespers:  7:00 PM

The purpose of the Christian church is to worship the Triune God and by evangelism to bring others into the worshipping community.  Contrary to conventional understanding, true Christian worship is not something we do to serve God.  Rather, it is God who serves us by offering and granting us forgiveness, life, and salvation through His Word and Sacraments.  We respond to His gracious gifts with our sacrifices of praise, prayer, and thanksgiving.  And we go home strengthened, refreshed, and eager to do God's will by serving our neighbor in love.  So while it is true to say that we participate in the worship of our Lord, we are essentially passive participants.  God is the One who is active.  He is the One who invites and He is the One who gives.  What an invitation He extends!  What wonderful gifts He gives to us!  No wonder we respond as Psalmist did when he exclaimed through the power of the Holy Spirit, I was glad when they said to me "Let us go to the house of the Lord" (Psalm 122:1).

We cordially invite you to join us at Saint Paul's to worship our Triune God and study His Word.  We gather every Sunday for two services, with Sunday School and Bible Study for all ages in between.  We also worship on Wednesday evenings during the seasons of Advent and Lent.  Our worship life is ordered around the church's traditional liturgical calendar that helps us recall God's great work of salvation for all people -- the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  For many years our primary worship book was The Lutheran Hymnal of 1941, known fondly as the "red hymnal."  In April 2007, the voters' assembly of Saint Paul's agreed to adopt Lutheran Service Book, the LCMS hymnal published in 2006, as our principal hymnal.  We transitioned to the new hymnal in June 2007.

The celebration of Holy Communion alternates weekly between early and late Sunday services.  We kindly ask all visitors who wish to commune to speak with one of the pastors or ushers before the service as we practice closed communion in obedience to the Scriptures.  For an explanation of this practice, please read our closed communion policy.
